More to come
Music for me is an outlet a place to escape and feel whole again. It allows me an opportunity to express my artistic nature and engage in a healthy social outlet.
My musical dream(s) are to create music that is loved by many. Writing songs for a living and playing those songs in front of 100's of thousands of people. I would love to get a group, record original content, and head out on the road and play full time.
I would start with me. I would change the way that I approach people. It seems like everyone is just looking for very simple things in life (someone who looks at them and thinks they are special and will show them that; and someone that they feel is special and want to show them that type of love). If those things are satisfied, it would seem like we become a little more human.
It is hard for me to point at one song as the "one" that shaped my musical experience but I would have to say hearing Brahms 3rd symphony's 3rd movement or Samuel Barber's Adagio for Strings may have been one of the biggest musical experiences of my childhood.
Harry Connic Jr, Stevie Ray Vaugh, Stevie Wonder, Queen, Elton John, Jon Gibson, Tom Petty, Van Morrison, Fleetwood Mac, James Taylor, Paul Simon, Crosby Stills Nash & Young, Beatles, Neal Young, Jim Croce, Lumineers, Mumford & Sons, Ray LaMontagne, The Wallflowers, Blues Traveler, Bob Dylan, Eagles, Beach Boys, Counting Crows, John Mayer, Marty Robins, Dolly Parton,
I have found that my pain, depression, and low moments provide the biggest inspiration. I have found the act of writing creates a purpose for my emotions and have used it to create some very powerfully written lyrics. I find that the music is secondary to the expression of emotion.
I want to send the message that we are not alone. We are more alike than we are different. We have too much hate in our lives and too much love we forget to give.
Sometimes I feel nervous. Since my art is an expression of my heart I want things to be considered and sometimes it's scary to put my music in front of others.
I see that musicians have to be technically savvy and good at self-promotion. I also see that people that don't look like what Hollywood wants them to look like might have more difficulty making music that gets to the bigger audience. I believe that allowing a chance to those who are not as "pretty" or aesthetically marketable the opportunity to make beautiful music would be a great improvement.
The jury is still out.
Being in a rural area and not having the availability of connecting with other great musicians that can improve my abilities.
I attend local and national venues in the greater St. Louis region regularly.
They need to have a go-get-them attitude that does not take no for an answer where they are constantly hustling until the break happens.
This is hard, I don't know who you have not heard of.
