Ato Cox

Ato Cox, Late Blooming,Aspiring lead guitar player /singer

Even though I've been playing guitar since 2012. I've been wanting to do it since at least 1999. After first getting to like, then watching country musicians play ,it made me finally pick up the guitar. This was after years of being a fan of Calypso,Reggae then (the less guitar friendly) rap Hip hop music. Ever since picking up guitar, I've fallen in love with genres I didn't listen to much before , such as Blues , as well as Classic Rock. Of course ,with my Caribbean background (Trinidad and Tobago) ,the music by the world-famous Bob Marley was already exposed to me a lot so his reggae music I try to cover. I simply didn't pick up guitar until realizing that performers of Country music (another genre that I fell in love with about 2009, when I listened less to rap ) all knew how to play guitar. Even though I currently do not actually write my own songs , I want to (and will) start doing so. Eventually I want to be a lead singer/ lead guitar player (preferably in a band, but perhaps I can do it Tommy Emmanuel style solo )who writes his own material . I want to examine all genres that promote guitar music. I want to master my ears to understand all musical notes from other genres.(which is why I plan to study classical music and also learn about Jazz guitar) .In an ideal world, I'd love to learn other instruments (such as the piano) , but guitar (as well as vocals)will always be my priority. I'm taking a chance with "Drooble", even though I had not heard of them before, until it was suggested of Facebook. We will see where this goes. New York City I consider my U.S home, but now I've been getting a lot of opportunity in Philadelphia to spend time doing nothing else but improve my musicianship . This is happening at a time when finally I can get a regular job in the improving economy of 2018 (after recent years of not having a steady one) ,but I guess on the other hand I don't know when I will get this opportunity again as a young man to have more free time to practice guitar. It's been an interesting journey , having begun late with guitar , but I remain undaunted as to where it will lead me.I'm mostly self taught musically, equally reading actual books and learning via videos on the internet.
