Andrew Hossack

Story

Been writing lyrics for as long as I can remember! Started playing guitar seriously quite late, think i was 26. Had bits of success, my song Ocean and Tides got a honorary mention in the American Songwriter monthly lyric competition, as well as getting to the semi's of the UK song contest. I had 2 songs co-written with French indie artist Arcole on his Protocol Island album and 1 song I cowrote on Brazilian TV. Currently I work with my mate and singer Steve Griffiths on our project Disparate Souls, we self record and release from my little home studio. We've released a few singles and 2 EPs so far. We had a song True Love Never Dies awarded runner up in 2017 Song of the Year and in 2018 I Know Me was a Semi finalist. What is music to you? What does it give you?

my heart and soul

What is your music dream?

To be recognised as a songwriter - have a publishing deal

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

more love, less hate.

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

too many to mention. My first real musical memories are hearing Elvis and the beatles that my parents used to play. The red and blue beatles albums were probably my first musical obsession. Don't think i can narrow it down to 1 song!

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

Dylan, neil young, ryan adams, the smiths, the cure, early elvis, the stones, the beatles, talking heads, david bowie

What inspires you to make music?

life

What is the message you want to send with your music?

i like to write lyrics that are thought provoking and well written, that convey some emotion. musically, i still like melody. I also like immediacy and a rawness in music

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

nervous and excited!

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

society has lost the value of music. We don't value it like other mediums. when i was growing up people would queue overnight to buy a new release, now people queue for a phone. People will pay £10 a month for practically every album ever made. £10! But are quite happy paying £100 for satellite TV.

What do you think of Drooble?

it seems very good, although i'm new and still exploring!

What frustrates you most as a musician?

bland banal music being successful ! too much nostalgia too - greatest hits tours and cover bands !

Do you support your local scene as a fan? How?

go to giggs, buy music

What qualities should a musician nowadays have in order to get their music heard by a larger audience?

good songs !

Share some awesome artists that we’ve never heard of.

funke and the 2 tone baby wulfman fury Disparate Souls !
