AAteam

AA team is a musical collaboration between two prominent veteran musicians on the latin/latin jazz scene. Master percussionist/composer, Anthony Carrillo has performed with top artists from Puerto Rico and internationally including latin legends Eddie Palmieri and Batacumbele, Puerto Rican rock band PUYA, rapper Residente, and pop artists Harry Belafonte and Paul Simon. Pianist/arranger, Amy Millan​ combines her jazz training with her latin experience performing with New York latin bands including Los Jovenes del Barrio and Jimmy Sabater Jr. Since 2015, they have collaborated on original compositions infusing latin percussion with various genres including but not limited to salsa,samba, swing, pop, soul and avant garde.

What is music to you? What does it give you?

My music is artistic expression of ideas, thought,concepts, feelings free from external pressure to conform to worldly expectations. The communication of my inner spirit gives me freedom from all biases and angst that might hinder me in my path.

What is your music dream?

My dream musically is to continue to create and produce good music until i die.

If you could change the world - what would you start with?

I would get rid of all biases of human against human and remove all barriers leading to social stratification.

Which is the most memorable song from your childhood?

The most memorable songs are the songs my grandparents would sing and perform on harmonica. “You are my sunshine”, “songbird”, “Baby face”, “Mississippi Mud”, “The Stripper”, “traveling musicians”(in lithuanian).

Who are your favorite musical artists or bands?

Art Tatum, Bill Evans, Nina Simone, Billie Holiday, Elis Regina, Chucho Valdez, McCoy Tyner.

What inspires you to make music?

It’s my obligation to present musical truth.

What is the message you want to send with your music?

Unity and diversity.

How do you feel when you perform in front of an audience?

Like this is where I’m supposed to be and all other concerns are moot.

How do you see the musicians’ reality nowadays? What could be improved?

I only know my own reality which is musically great and economically bleak.
