2021 consists of prepping for my EP, "Coffee at Midnight," and my day job. Come over to my website! https://amyleeraebrown.weebly.com/
For me, I've used songwriting as a way to get a feeling into a form I can convey. If someone or something has affected me, it's turned into a song if the feeling is strong enough and I can then go about crafting a way to get it out. On occasion, I'll just come up with something I like, and I'll write that down too. I've tried to write from other people's perspectives as well as my own, which can widen the range of topics. It's mostly a way to vent, but it doesn't always have to be personal.
I keep my dreams small. 1. Record my work. 2. Get it to people who like it enough to buy it. 3. Complete at least one musical.
1. Eliminate interest on student loans to make paying back the cost more doable. 2. Educate and advocate for reform in our culture to eliminate assault and violence against women. 3. Reform the system to help people out of homelessness- including giving people housing as a first step. 4. Make live theater more accessible to lower income families and settings like as prisons and shelters, to inspire and bring change to those who don't normally have access.
Memory- Cats. Goodbye Earl- The Dixie Chicks Strawberry Wine- Deana Carter. The last one was definitely sung by me at a family karaoke when I had no idea what the lyrics meant.
The Punch Brothers, Sufjan Stevens, Linkin Park
A lack of sleep. overthinking. people I know.
Music doesn't have to have a message, but it's great to do so. I've written lyrics before that are politically charged in nature, but reaching into an emotional echo chamber isn't much good to reach those on the other side. It does, however, affirm and empower those who need to hear it. That said, anyone who says music/artists shouldn't be political needs to get their head out of their ass. Art is political. Theater is political. Music is political. Get used to it.
I rack my brain and get words out of my mouth. ?
Artists who want to make money/a living need to get out of the echo chamber of other artists and reach out to actual potential consumers with income to burn.
It's somewhere to put music; unfortunately it seems like most people here see it as a hobby site. I was hoping to build more of a fanbase but that remains to be seen if people follow my work anywhere besides here.
1. People who say they like my work and then never bother to check out more. 2. Musicians and singers with more ego than talent 3. Overrated names in the industry and toxic fanbases
I'm more supportive of the theater scene, as there aren't a lot of local bands that strike my interest to go out and see them. I don't do the whole back scratch exchange for the heck of it, it has to genuinely strike me enough to get me out of the house. I also don't drive, so that limits me during the times I do want to go somewhere.
marketability, networking talent/business savvy, be relatable, have music that people can remember, standout vocals and songwriting, quality production on albums....
