Al Morrison

Bio

UK Songwriting contest finalist. From RedSands Radio: "Al Morrison was Born in Fife, Scotland. He started playing piano when he was 9 but switched to guitar at 15 and shortly after formed Ska Punk band Dudload with Richard (Skully) Skulina on drums and Mark Williamson on bass. The band started out playing local gigs and battle of the band competitions in Fife. In 1999 Al and Skully moved to Glasgow where things really kicked off for Dudload. Several changes of bassist followed and the addition of second guitarist Ed Benwell and occasional trumpet – Calvin Cowie. The band started gigging almost every week, playing in Glasgow venues such as the Cathouse and the 13th Note with notable punk bands such as Capdown, Link 80 and Longbeach Shortbus (featuring members of Sublime). The band continued for another 6 years, playing mainly Glasgow and Edinburgh but also several punk festivals in Liverpool, Leeds and Manchester. In 2006 the band ran out of steam and decided to call it a day, the usual story – other commitments like family and work took over. Al Morrison started doing solo gigs and recording new more acoustic focused tracks. In 2009 Al and his Wife Nicola moved to Canterbury for Nicola to study a PhD at UKC. Al began to gig around the Canterbury area and continues to write acoustic songs that he hopes still have their roots in the ska/punk he started out on with Dudload
